The advent of indies!

This night, our little treat for you will open its first gingerbread! What that means? Well, this:

In an effort to bring indie developers together and to give back something to the community, The Rat King asked 22 fellow devs to bake 24 yummy gingerbreads with Him. Each of the first 23 gingerbreads will contain a developer's free game (either made free for the day or just a favourite freebie) together with a price draw, meaning you can win a code for the developer's current game project. The 24th gingerbread will have a winning contest for several of the previous games in store.

So this might shorten the time until Christmas for you. Just head over to www.advent-of-indies.com and have a look!

The Indie Buskers are done.

After 48 hours of frenzy, the game jam that was the Indie Buskers' "Feed-An-Indie" event has ended. We earned over $4100 so far at this point, which is quite nice. And the whole jam wasn't just about the games, but also the (poor) indie developers who made them, so that some people even paid over $100! Thanks to you all!

It was a very intense experience, with all the live-chatting and -streaming and such. And although we participated in other 48h-jams before, we probably were a little bit too ambitious. That's why we will do bugfixes and additional content (more levels and sound effects) for our game "The Sun Is Deadly" eventually. It will need some time, as other things are going to happen soon, but we wouldn't feel good if it keeps being in this unpolished state.

But what is "The Sun Is Deadly"? It is based on the game idea from EgoAnt: "It might be cool to have a game where you control objects to block sunlight to create a path of darkness - so that a vampire can get to their intended victim."

Thus it's about a vampire (you) who awakens in a city, with the thirst for blood and the hunger for a young virgin in his mind. But there are guards all around, trying to protect the innocents. They can see you when you're not in the shadow, so keep hidden; it's also important to know that you lose energy when you standing in full light. With all these disadvantages against you, there is something to frolic: as a powerful vampire, you can do telekinesis - move objects like big crates and let them cast shadows for you or just block the line of sight from your enemies.

You walk around via WASD and feed from people by getting near them and holding the left mouse button. You special ability, telekinesis, works over great distances and is also activated by left click. The goal of each level is to get to the holy virgin and allure her to your graveyard. The only way to do this is using telekinesis on a little jewel box that is lying somewhere in the level.

The game was made with Unity, 3dsmax and Photoshop. dasRaguu made the music! Interesting enough, piotrlysek on YouTube made some videos of the early versions of The Sun Is Deadly (and all the other games): v0.0.0.1, v0.1b, v0.2, v0.3, v0.6, final (Early Bird Version). EDIT: Sadly, that YouTube account was deleted.

Thanks to Pekuja, Sophie, Sos and Tametick for this great event; I hope we'll do it again! By the way, Colin Brown wrote nicely about all the games, so you can see screenshots of every Busker's game there!
