We went to yet another GameDev Leipzig Meetup yesterday. This time we didn’t prepare a talk, but people could play the current state of the on my laptop. As tradition demands, we did yet another redesign of the game, both in looks and in functionality …
We will write about this in more detail later on, but the gist for now is: we took a few steps back – as the several parts of the game became a mess and not fun to work on – and now concentrate on more focused parts of Patou. For example, all we showcased yesterday was the new “overworld”, which only allows riding the dog. In this overworld, inspired by the map screen in JRPGs, the player has to find several memory islands.
Overall the feedback was positive! The new style is dream-like, the sounds add to the atmosphere and the focus on the most fun part (riding a dog!) definitely benefits the project.
